Conservation experts and federal agents say they're looking into the violent deaths of several bottlenose dolphins along the northern Gulf Coast this year, including one that was shot and another that was stabbed with a screwdriver.

"I can't explain why anyone would shoot a dolphin," Jeff Radonski, a Florida-based special agent for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, told CNN. Radonski said NOAA is investigating four of the six deaths reported since June.

Samia Ahmad, a spokeswoman for the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport, Mississippi, said at least six dolphins had died as a result of foul play since January. In one case, a dolphin had its jaw cut off, she said.

Investigators exhumed the mother of one of Mexico's most notorious cartel kingpins Monday, two weeks after thieves apparently made off with her son's body before authorities could conclusively confirm his identity.

Now they plan to do DNA tests to verify that the man they killed in a gunbattle earlier this month was Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano, leader of the Zetas drug cartel, Mexico's attorney general's office said.

Former rap star Flavor Flav was arrested Wednesday in Las Vegas, Nevada, and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and battery in a case involving his fiancee of eight years, police said.

Police were called to their house on the city's south side at 3:30 a.m., according to a domestic battery report issued by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which offers the following account of events:

Flav, whose real name is William J. Drayton, 53, was arguing with the woman, Elizabeth Trujillo, 39.

The two had gotten into a "verbal altercation due to Drayton cheating on Trujillo," it said. The argument continued in the downstairs bedroom, where "Drayton became physical."

"Trujillo stated Drayton grabbed her by the shoulders, stomach and arms, and threw her to the ground two separate times," it continued, adding that Trujillo said an earring was ripped out of her ear during the incident.

A member of the Secret Service was arrested in Miami early Friday after a run-in with a patrolman, city police said.

The incident occurred after President Obama campaigned in the city Thursday.

Police spotted Aaron Francis Engler lying down on a street corner, according to a police report, and an officer roused him to help him sit up and stand.

A Secret Service scandal involving agents who hired prostitutes in Colombia did not harm presidential security, according to an investigation conducted by the acting inspector general for the Department of Homeland Security.

"Although we found that these agents engaged in misconduct, our investigation developed no evidence to suggest that the actions of USSS (U.S. Secret Service) personnel in Cartagena compromised the safety and security of the president or any sensitive information during this trip," Charles Edwards wrote to House and Senate members concerned about the matter.

The findings support previous statements by the Secret Service that the actions of some agents who were in Colombia in advance of President Barack Obama's arrival for an April trip did not endanger the president.

British police have decided not to press any charges against the elderly couple who had been unknowingly cultivating a huge cannabis plant in their garden. The plant was seized Monday in Bedfordshire, central England. The police later posted a picture on Twitter with comments: "Elderly couple bought shrub at car boot sale," adding that it was the "biggest cannabis plant we had seen!!

Law enforcement authorities announced Tuesday that soil samples tested negative for human remains after police drilled below a concrete slab at a suburban Detroit residence to test an anomaly detected by radar.
This latest effort in the longtime search for the Teamsters boss who disappeared in 1975 was sparked by a tip.
Police say the tipster did not say Hoffa was buried there, but did say a burial happened around the time he went missing. Police will not release information about the tipster.
"The samples submitted for examination showed no signs of human decomposition," a statement from Roseville Police Chief James Berlin said Tuesday.
Berlin said last week that the homeowners had been "cooperative and excellent to police."
Hoffa's disappearance may have been linked to him trying to regain power in the Teamsters after he was released from prison, according to the FBI.
Hoffa, who was 62 at the time he vanished, was last seen at Machus Red Fox restaurant in Bloomfield Township, Michigan. He was reportedly there to talk with Detroit mob street enforcer Anthony Giacalone and New Jersey Teamsters official Anthony Provenzano. Hoffa may have been under the impression the meeting was to settle a feud between him and Provenzano, but Hoffa was the only one to show up.

DNA evidence links a now-dead American convict to the murder of a Canadian teenager who disappeared in 1974, authorities in British Columbia said Tuesday.

Bobby Jack Fowler, who died in an Oregon prison in 2006, is responsible for the murder of 16-year-old Colleen MacMillen, Inspector Gary Shinkaruk of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said at a news conference.

Authorities said while the case is closed on MacMillen's death, investigations continue into the abductions and killings of other women in the same region of Canada, and the search is still on for information in those cases.
