dolphin deaths

http://www.cnn.com/2012/11/19/us/dolphin-deaths/index.html?hpt=ju_c2
Conservation experts and federal agents say they're looking into the violent deaths of several bottlenose dolphins along the northern Gulf Coast this year, including one that was shot and another that was stabbed with a screwdriver.
"I can't explain why anyone would shoot a dolphin," Jeff Radonski, a Florida-based special agent for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, told CNN. Radonski said NOAA is investigating four of the six deaths reported since June.
Samia Ahmad, a spokeswoman for the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport, Mississippi, said at least six dolphins had died as a result of foul play since January. In one case, a dolphin had its jaw cut off, she said.

Investigators exhumed the mother of one of Mexico's most notorious cartel kingpins Monday, two weeks after thieves apparently made off with her son's body before authorities could conclusively confirm his identity.
Now they plan to do DNA tests to verify that the man they killed in a gunbattle earlier this month was Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano, leader of the Zetas drug cartel, Mexico's attorney general's office said.

Former rap star Flavor Flav was arrested Wednesday in Las Vegas, Nevada, and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and battery in a case involving his fiancee of eight years, police said.
Police were called to their house on the city's south side at 3:30 a.m., according to a domestic battery report issued by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which offers the following account of events:
Flav, whose real name is William J. Drayton, 53, was arguing with the woman, Elizabeth Trujillo, 39.
The two had gotten into a "verbal altercation due to Drayton cheating on Trujillo," it said. The argument continued in the downstairs bedroom, where "Drayton became physical."
"Trujillo stated Drayton grabbed her by the shoulders, stomach and arms, and threw her to the ground two separate times," it continued, adding that Trujillo said an earring was ripped out of her ear during the incident.

A member of the Secret Service was arrested in Miami early Friday after a run-in with a patrolman, city police said.
The incident occurred after President Obama campaigned in the city Thursday.
Police spotted Aaron Francis Engler lying down on a street corner, according to a police report, and an officer roused him to help him sit up and stand.

A Secret Service scandal involving agents who hired prostitutes in Colombia did not harm presidential security, according to an investigation conducted by the acting inspector general for the Department of Homeland Security.
"Although we found that these agents engaged in misconduct, our investigation developed no evidence to suggest that the actions of USSS (U.S. Secret Service) personnel in Cartagena compromised the safety and security of the president or any sensitive information during this trip," Charles Edwards wrote to House and Senate members concerned about the matter.
The findings support previous statements by the Secret Service that the actions of some agents who were in Colombia in advance of President Barack Obama's arrival for an April trip did not endanger the president.

jimmy haffa still not found

Law enforcement authorities announced Tuesday that soil samples tested negative for human remains after police drilled below a concrete slab at a suburban Detroit residence to test an anomaly detected by radar.
This latest effort in the longtime search for the Teamsters boss who disappeared in 1975 was sparked by a tip.
Police say the tipster did not say Hoffa was buried there, but did say a burial happened around the time he went missing. Police will not release information about the tipster.
"The samples submitted for examination showed no signs of human decomposition," a statement from Roseville Police Chief James Berlin said Tuesday.
Berlin said last week that the homeowners had been "cooperative and excellent to police."
Hoffa's disappearance may have been linked to him trying to regain power in the Teamsters after he was released from prison, according to the FBI.
Hoffa, who was 62 at the time he vanished, was last seen at Machus Red Fox restaurant in Bloomfield Township, Michigan. He was reportedly there to talk with Detroit mob street enforcer Anthony Giacalone and New Jersey Teamsters official Anthony Provenzano. Hoffa may have been under the impression the meeting was to settle a feud between him and Provenzano, but Hoffa was the only one to show up.

Bobby Jack Fowler, who died in an Oregon prison in 2006, is responsible for the murder of 16-year-old Colleen MacMillen, Inspector Gary Shinkaruk of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said at a news conference.
Authorities said while the case is closed on MacMillen's death, investigations continue into the abductions and killings of other women in the same region of Canada, and the search is still on for information in those cases.

    http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/23/justice/pennsylvania-hostage-situation/index.html?hpt=ju_c2
The police involved in a hostage situation were faced with an interesting decision.
It wasn't whether to send in a robot or storm into a building, it was whether to have the hostage taker's Facebook page shut down.
Here's what they knew: A 22-year-old man in Pittsburgh had taken another man hostage and was holed up in a suite on the 16th floor of a high-rise office building.
And the suspect, Klein Michael Thaxton, had been on Facebook for hours.
"People were sending Facebook messages. We could see that he was paying more attention to Facebook than to the negotiating team, which was hampering our abilities to resolve the situation," Diane Richard, a spokeswoman for Pittsburgh Police Department, said about Friday's incident.
Richard said SWAT officers kept an eye on the Facebook page for at least two hours before making a joint decision with the district attorney to ask for the page to be shut down.

A flight attendant with a permit to carry a handgun forgot to leave her weapon at home Sunday morning, leading to the accidental discharge of the gun by a police officer at Philadelphia International Airport.
The flight attendant, who is an employee of Republic Airlines, which operates US Airways Express flights out of Philadelphia, put her handbag on the X-ray machine conveyor belt as she went through the routine security check about 6:30 a.m. at Terminal C, said Jim Fotenos, spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration.
TSA officers noticed the gun and alerted Philadelphia police officers, who responded quickly, police spokesman Lt. Ray Evers said.
A female police officer, whom the department declined to name, tried to make the weapon safe by removing the bullets but instead accidentally fired it, Evers said. The bullet that was discharged hit the ground and did not injure anyone

    ten grusome medieval torture devices

With the head placed under the upper cap and the chin placed above the bottom bar, the top screw of this awful device was slowly turned, compressing the skull tightly. First the teeth are destroyed, shattering and splintering into the jaw. Then the eyes are squeezed from the sockets – some versions had special receptacles to catch them. Lastly, the skull fractures and the contents of the head are forced out. In earlier stages, the torturer could keep the head firmly clamped and strike the metal skull cap periodically; each blow echoing pain throughout the victim’s body.

The Cat’s Paw (or Spanish Tickler) was oftentimes attached to a handle; in size and appearance it was an extension of the torturer’s hand. In this way it was used to rip and tear flesh away from the bone, from any part of the body.

A popular torture device during the Inquisition, the knee splitter does what it says: split victims’ knees and render them useless. Built from two spiked wood blocks, the knee splitter is placed on top of and behind the knee of its victims. Two large screws connecting the blocks are then turned, causing the two blocks to close towards each other and effectively destroy a victim’s knee. This device could also be used to inflict damage on other parts of the body such as the arms.

The Scavenger’s Daughter was invented as an instrument of torture in the reign of Henry VIII by Sir William Skevington (also known as William Skeffington), Lieutenant of the Tower of London. It was an A-frame shaped metal rack to which the head was strapped to the top point of the A, the hands at the mid-point and the legs at the lower spread ends; swinging the head down and forcing the knees up in a sitting position so compressed the body as to force the blood from the nose and ears. The Scavenger’s Daughter was conceived as the perfect complement to the Duke of Exeter’s Daughter (the rack) because it worked the opposite principle to the rack by compressing the body rather than stretching it.

pokemon black2 and white2 real information

Information on Pokémon Black and White 2 is starting to show up online. With the game’s Japanese release forecasted for June, more information should be revealed soon.
The games are again set in the Unova region. However, portions of Unova have been covered in ice, presumably because of Kyurem – the Ice-type dragon featured on the cover art. I’m really hoping these frozen areas are still accessible, as an abandoned city covered in ice would be an awesome place to catch Pokémon. In addition to returning cities from Pokémon Black and White, the sequels will feature some new locations.
The games also feature a brand new story with fresh characters, albeit ones that exist in every Pokémon game (professor, rival, gym leaders). There are also new designs for the player characters, both male and female.
These designs unfortunately show no sign of making your own trainer, something fans have been wanting for years. I don’t need character creation as detailed as Skyrim or Mass Effect, but I should at least be able to pick some normal hair. Hopefully more details on the games will reveal some degree of character customization.
A mix of old and new Pokémon will populate the game, including classics like Psyduck and fairly new additions such as Riolu. No news on the starter Pokémon has come in, although a mix of generations would be pretty exciting. Who would you chose between Charmander, Totodile, and Treecko?
Other than the new forms of Kyurem, there doesn’t seem to be any brand new Pokémon in the game. However, there are several 5th generation legendary Pokémon that were unavailable in Black and White, such as Keldeo, Meloetta, and Genesect. Perhaps these three will make an appearance in Black and White 2.
With what little we know about Pokémon Black and White 2, are you excited? Or does this one seem too similar to the previous entries in the Pokémon series?

The United States Federal Prison System known as the Federal Bureau of Prisons was established in 1930 to provide more progressive and humane care for Federal inmates, to professionalize the prison service, and to ensure consistent and centralized administration of the 11 Federal prisons in operation at the time.

Today, the Bureau consists of 116 institutions, 6 regional offices, a Central Office headquarters, 2 staff training centers, and 22 community corrections offices. The regional offices and Central Office provide administrative oversight and support to Bureau facilities and community corrections offices. In turn, community corrections offices oversee residential reentry centers and home confinement programs.

The Bureau is responsible for the custody and care of approximately 210,000 Federal offenders. Approximately 82 percent of these inmates are confined in Bureau-operated facilities, while the balance is confined in secure privately managed or community-based facilities and local jails.

The Bureau protects public safety by ensuring that Federal offenders serve their sentences of imprisonment in facilities that are safe, humane, cost-efficient, and appropriately secure. The Bureau helps reduce the potential for future criminal activity by encouraging inmates to participate in a range of programs that have been proven to reduce recidivism. More than 38,000 BOP employees ensure the security of Federal prisons, provide inmates with needed programs and services, and model mainstream values.

    panic alarms

A home is a not hurtful asylum for relatives and loved ones. It is a spot where no one expects unfortunate events to occur. Inappropriately, coincidences and crime can occur anytime, somewhere, even in the home. Partway of the accountability of the owner or the grown-up living in the home is to save the home safe and secure at all times.

One technique to do this is to fix unlike types of locks everywhere the house to keep invaders out. Smoke indicators must also be fitted so when there’s a fire, the residents will still have interval to get out of the house. Though all these methods are good, installing a panic alert is better.

these are pictures of nanobots and nanotechnology
    heres some info

The anticipated emergence of molecular manufacturing (MM) within decades requires new conceptualizations about crime and new strategies to address it. The seeds of possible solutions are planted in the United Kingdom where formal policing began.

Too often today, we look at crime incident by incident. In medicine this would be like studying each individual virus case separately to find a way to combat that one particular infection. Finding practical ways to prevent, contain, and minimize crime by studying it in aggregations—as research scientists study strains of viruses—with objective measures and creative solutions: this is what policing in the world of the future will demand.

The possible applications of nanotechnology to advanced weaponry are fertile ground for fantasy. It is obvious that three-dimensional assembly of nanostructures in bulk can yield much better versions of most conventional (nonnuclear) weapons; e.g., guns can be lighter, carry more ammunition, fire self-guided bullets, incorporate multispectral gunsights or even fire themselves when an enemy is detected. Science fiction writers can and do have a lot of fun imagining such things.
